Making Connections : Creating New Communities of Christian Faith PDF Print

ImageThe Jubilee Community is about connecting with people. It is about slowly uncovering what has been hidden, overlaid and forgotten over the years, and restoring the principal structure of the church - an indigenous and relational church that demonstrates Christ to the world by demonstrating the qualities that Jesus demonstrated.

The Christian life is one of relationship and not just a set of principles and processes

The New Testament (Acts 2 v42-47) is the pattern for this renewed church. It is an incarnational church rather than an institutional church (1 Cor 3 v9) (1 Peter 2 v5).

Definition(s): Incarnation - To personify a given abstract quality or idea. Institution - A custom, practice, relationship, or behavioural pattern, an established organization or foundation. (Webster's Unabridged Dictionary)

The human body is made up millions of cells, the basic unit of life. Likewise, people form the basic unit of the church. Within Jubilee we encourage believers to actively seek relationships with God, each other and those who do not believe. These relationships stimulate each member to maturity in worship, mutual edification and evangelism. Built on the principle that all Christians are ministers, Jubilee actively seeks to develop each disciple into the likeness of Christ. This is where love, community, relationships, ministry, and evangelism spring up naturally and powerfully. Therefore the life of the church is in people, not in buildings or programmes.

Definition: Church Planting "creating new communities of Christian faith as part of the Mission of God, to express His Kingdom in every geographic and cultural context." (Bob Hopkins 1991).

The church is a dynamic, organic, spiritual being that can only be lived out in the lives of believers in the community.

Acts 2 v42 - 47.

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."

Rediscovery not Reinvention:

The Jubilee Community is about returning to the basics of what being church is all about, drawing on New Testament principles and learning from history. The greatest challenge facing those involved in new expressions of church today is reaching those for whom institutional Church is totally irrelevant
